I need advice on tablets

Journal Entry: Mon Mar 28, 2011, 3:45 PM

Before anything, I'm sorry for not being able to reply to all comments. I recive too many. I read them all and try to reply as many as I can OTL
I still have delayed comments from February. Please, don't stop commenting. I really appreciate it

About the tablets matter, is that for a while now I've been interested in the Wacom's Cintiq drawing tablet (which is a drawing table which drawing surface is a screen, so you can see what you're doing) But the Cintiq is terribly expensive ($1000 or so, and in Europe it's price it's doubled)

Then I saw the IPads and other kind of tablet PCs, etc... which are way cheaper than a Cintiq, yet it seems they could be used the same way. Problem is, I heard they have some issues like lack of USBs, specific OS, which wouldn't allow me to use my usual programs (mainly SAI), etc... As well as that I don't know how good the graphics cards for this items are (color can change GREATLY dependng on the card'd quality, and so is very important when painting digitally)

This is way I like to hear some advice from you, if you know abou them (both Cintiq and the different types of tablets), if you've tried any and what was your experiences in painting with them and such, please.

Hmm, I'm not sure what you're using now, but if you have the money to invest in the Cintiq I seriously think it would be better than the iPad. My husband is a huge fan of the iPad but not for art purposes. Out of curiosity I asked him to explain differences and he compared the iPad to MSPaint and Cintiq to Photoshop. Now if that's something you would like to go for then definitely, but apparently you don't get pen pressure and a bunch of other things that you would get from having an Intuos or a Cintiq or any of the other wacom tablets. I just recently got an Intuos 4, btw, and it's absolutely amazing. I feel like I'm drawing on paper rather than using a digital tool. The pressure sensitivity is pretty awesome as well. I just upgraded from the Intuos 3 and my tablet before that was a Graphire. I'm not sure how helpful this will be for you since I don't know what you've currently got, but if you can find what you're looking for that's been refurbished you can get it at a much cheaper price than paying for a brand spanking new one and they work just fine.

Thank you very much! That's helpful :D
I have an Intuos 3. I didn't know there was so much difference with Intuos 4 though.
But if I upgrade, I think I'll go for the Cintiq.
A problem I have with this, though, is that here in Spain drawing tablets are VERY rare. I had a hard time finding mine (specially the A4 size), so I'll most probably need to import wathever I buy OTL

You're very welcome! I usually do all my tablet shopping online. I think there are some sites online that provide refurbished with international shipping, so if you want to save some money on the Cintinq that might be a great place to start.

Well the Cintiq is more is more detailed when it comes to designs or drawings [link] this is like the more detailed information Wacom Cintiq POSITIVES and NEGATIVES of it.

The iPad, Android 2.0 table, Asus Eee Slate EP121 [link] and Malata A1011 [link] cheaper if you compare it with the Cintiq but recalls that they are not made specifically for use in drawing that is why its quality and accuracy is a bit poor.

Anyway I hope the links and info can help you in Ur choose I would recommend you to try everything and buy the most comfortable for the kind of use you are going to give.

Thank you :D
I'm just gathering info for now. I still have a working Intuos 3. But a Cintiq would definitely be a good help (specially for moving around, maybe...)

It's just moving around the house XD I don't think I'd take it out.
But it'd be very convenient since I can't use my main computer at all times of the day.
